Audio Transfer and Restoration by
Doug Benson
"...what Doug Benson... has achieved here is nothing less than revelatory. To hear these astonishing transfers is, in a very real sense, to truly hear this music for the first time. (If you are also an opera fan, it's akin to what Ward Marston has accomplished in that musical realm.)"
--Dan Morgenstern
"...here at last is what I believe to be the closest anyone has ever gotten to reproducing what Oliver laid down in those glorious few months before Louis split. In particular, the two-cornet lines and the powerful drive of the first great band in jazz history have never been clearer."
--George Avakian

Doug Benson has been involved in studio recording and production since 1978, and has run a commercial studio, Catoctin Mountain Recording, since 1992. A collector of vintage recordings and a fan of early jazz since boyhood, Doug took a serious interest in sound restoration in 2002. After some inspiring correspondence with the late John R. T. Davies, he began work on The Complete Hit of the Week Recordings, an eight-CD project, released through Archeophone records. In 2005, Benson teamed with lifelong friend David Sager to create Off The Record LLC; an independent label featuring classic jazz reissues. OTR's first Grammy-nominated release, KIng Oliver Off The Record: The Complete 1923 Jazz Band Recordings, gained Benson widespread recognition for his restoration work.
